The Society for Critical Legal Studies (SCLS) Research Wing successfully conducted a dynamic series of sessions on research throughout May and June 2024. Under the banner of ‘Research রণন‘, these sessions were designed to build foundational research skills and enhance writing competencies for legal scholars and students alike. Each session was facilitated by esteemed academics and alumni, offering participants invaluable expertise and practical knowledge in their research journey.
1. May 20, 2024: Fundamentals of Research
The inaugural session, titled “Fundamentals of Research,” set the tone for the series. It was facilitated by Sakhawat Sajjad Sejan, the newly appointed Chairman of the Faculty of Law at the University of Feni. This comprehensive session covered essential aspects of research, including topic selection, research methodology, and academic integrity. Participants were introduced to the core principles of conducting systematic legal research, which proved instrumental in enhancing their understanding of scholarly work.
2. June 08, 2024: Nuances of Newspaper Articles and Blog Writing
The second session was dedicated to the craft of writing newspaper articles and blogs. Md. Jahedul Islam, a notable SCLS alumnus and current law lecturer at Southern University, Chittagong, guided participants through the nuances of creating engaging, accessible, and impactful content for public readership. Drawing from his experience as a former Fellow at Teach for Bangladesh, Jahedul emphasized the importance of clarity, simplicity, and relevance when communicating legal issues to a broader audience, helping bridge the gap between academia and public discourse.
3. June 14, 2024: Basics of Paper Writing
The final session of the series, titled “Basics of Paper Writing,” was conducted online by Aqib Tahmid, Lecturer at Port City International University. Aqib, a dedicated supporter of SCLS and one of its cherished alumni, offered participants detailed guidance on structuring academic papers, including the formulation of a thesis, literature review, and proper citation methods. His session ensured participants were well-equipped to produce high-quality research papers that meet academic standards.
These workshops reflect SCLS’s unwavering commitment to promoting research excellence and fostering a vibrant intellectual community dedicated to critical legal studies.
