SCLS Blog Submission Guidelines

  1. Scope and Eligibility

Society for Critical Legal Studies welcomes well-written and thought-provoking legal blogs addressing contemporary legal issues, legal developments, recent judgments, policy questions, or interdisciplinary topics relating to law and society. Submissions may be analytical, critical, comparative, or explanatory in nature, provided that they maintain appropriate legal and academic standards.

 

  1. Editorial and Review Process

All blog submissions undergo a double-blinded peer review process. Following an initial assessment by the Editorial Board to determine the submission’s suitability, relevance, and quality, the blog will be assigned to an appointed reviewer for further evaluation.

Following the review, the Editorial Board may accept the submission, request revisions, or reject the submission. The Editorial Board reserves the right to make the final decision regarding publication.

 

  1. Submission Method

Authors must submit their blog and author bio as two separate Microsoft Word files (.doc/.docx) to sclseditorial@gmail.com.

The email subject line should be: “Blog Submission – [Title of Your Blog]”.

To facilitate the double-blinded peer review process, the blog must not contain the author’s name, institutional affiliation, contact details, or any other identifying information.

  1. Word Count

Submissions should be between 1,200 and 1,500 words, excluding footnotes and references.

  1. Title and Formatting Requirements

Authors must provide a clear, concise, and relevant title for their blog. The title should accurately reflect the subject matter and central argument of the submission.

Authors must adhere to the following formatting requirements:

  • Font: Times New Roman (12 pt) or Arial (11 pt)
  • Footnotes: Times New Roman (10 pt) or Arial (9 pt)
  • Line spacing: 1.5
  • Alignment: Justified
  • Language: American English spelling should be used consistently throughout the submission.

 

  1. Citation Style

All citations and references must comply with the Oxford Standard for Citation of Legal Authorities (OSCOLA), 5th Edition.

Authors are encouraged to provide direct hyperlinks to online sources, where applicable, to enhance accessibility and web readability.

  1. Originality and AI Policy

All submissions must be the original and unpublished work of the author. Plagiarism, substantial unattributed reproduction, fabrication of sources, and misrepresentation of authorship are strictly prohibited.

The use of AI-generated content is strongly discouraged. Authors remain fully responsible for the originality, accuracy, legal analysis, citations, and overall integrity of their submissions. The Editorial Board reserves the right to reject submissions that do not meet its standards of originality and authorship.

  1. Copyright and License

Authors retain copyright in their work but grant the SCLS an irrevocable, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to reproduce, distribute, display, and make the blog available in digital formats through the SCLS website and, where applicable, its social media platforms, for educational, research, and non-profit purposes.

  1. Author Bio

The author bio must be submitted separately from the blog. It may include the author’s name, academic or professional affiliation, areas of research or interest, and other relevant information.
